JAKE

March 1998 - May 2015

This area is really for the great makers I've come to know. But how could I have a chums area and not headline with Jake? In all those years he stuck to me like glue, and for almost all his years he was a real Jack: bold, energetic, fearless... with a very big self-perception. Also guarding, loving and a resolutely devoted companion.

We had to let Jake go on Monday 4th May 2015, at the age of 17 years 8 weeks. In the last few months with eyesight failing and hearing very poor, I had become his eyes and ears - he would always be right by my feet and I became used to taking care where I stepped.

But in 17 years there will be a mountain of memories - the major walks, the swimming, and his fascination with the biggest sticks he could find. He once picked up a stick so heavy that his back legs lifted off the ground, but he managed quite a few yards with it anyway.

Jack Russells are well-known in the media, but I swear Jake was the most handsome of them all.

Jake was very partial to tea. Here, about to get right down in there.

He did us proud did Jake. I hope in time that I will feel we served him to our best as well. My very best mate, sorely missed.
